LIC is going to enter health insurance sector also
Information has also come to light that insurance giant Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is planning to enter the health insurance sector through a private health insurance company. People associated with the company said that LIC is considering acquiring one of the five private standalone health insurance companies.
Public sector company LIC will have to amend the existing insurance law to enter the health insurance market. Under existing laws, the regulatory body Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and the Insurance Act 1938 do not allow composite licensing of an insurer to undertake life, general or health insurance under a single entity.
